Warning  Light s  and  Gauges
Some  vehicles   are  equ ipped   with  an  engine   speed   (RPM)
limiting   device  contained    within   the  Pow ertrain   Control   Mod ule
(PCM).  The  purp  ose  of this   device  is  to  maintain   peak   engine
speed   (RPM)  below  a  specified   limit.  This  featu re  is  only
evid ent  on  au tom atic  transm ission   vehicles  when   shifting
manu ally  (1,  2, D)  and   on  all  manu al  transm  ission  units.   (Engine
speed   limits  may   vary  based   on  engine   displacem  ent.)
If you   are  exp eriencing   an  “engine   cut-ou t”  cond ition  at  high
speed s,  it  may  be  the  resu lt  of  this  limiting   device.  It  is  a
norm al  cond ition  and   can  be  avoid ed  by  red ucing
vehicle/  engine   speed .
Tachomet er
NOTE:   If  the  4.0L engin  e exceed s 5200  RPM , the  PCM  will
restrict  fuel   flow  to  main tain  engin e  speed   at or  below
5200
RPM . This  function   is  design  ed  to protect   the
engin e  and  should   be  consid ered  norm  al operation  .
