before proceed ing with the drive mod es of the follow ing OBD II
Drive Cycle.

Start the engine. Drive or idle (in neu tral) the vehicle for 4
minu tes.
Idle the vehicle in drive (neu tral for au tom atic transm issions)
for 40 second s.
Accelerate the vehicle to 45 mph (72 km / h) (for manu al
transm issions upshift from 1st to 5th gear, bu t hold in 2nd
for at least 5 second s) at 1/ 4 to 1/ 2 throttle for 10 second s.

Drive the vehicle with a stead y throttle at 45 mph
(72
km / h) (manu al transm issions use 5th gear) for 30
second s.

Idle the vehicle in drive (neu tral for manu al transm issions)
for 40 second s.
Continu e to drive the vehicle in city traffic at speed s
betw een 25 and 40 mph (40-64 km / h) (manu al transm issions
prim arily drive vehicles in 3rd and 4th gear when possible)
for 15 minu tes. Du ring the 15 minu te drive cycle the
follow ing mod es must be achieved :
a. at least 5 stop and idle mod es at 10 second s each.
b. acceleration from idles at 1/ 4 to 1/ 2 throttle position, and
c. choose three different speed s to do 1.5 minu te stead y state
throttle drives.
