Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
This gau ge tells you the tem peratu re of the engine coolant, not
the coolant level. If the coolant is not at its prop er level or
mixtu re, the gau ge ind icator will not be accu rate.
The pointer moves from the C (cold ) mark into the Norm al
band as the engine coolant warm s up. It is accep table for the
pointer to fluctu ate within the Norm al band und er norm al
driving cond itions. Und er certain driving cond itions, such as
heavy stop and go traffic or driving up hills in hot weather, the
pointer may move to the top of the Norm al band .
If, und er any circu mstances, the pointer moves above the
NORMAL band , the engine coolant is overheating and
continu ed operation may cau se engine dam age.
If you r engine coolant overheats:

Pu ll off the road as soon as it is safely possible.
Turn off the engine. If you do not stop the engine as soon as
safely possible, severe engine dam age could resu lt.

Let the engine cool. DO NOT REMOVE COOLANT
SYSTEM FILL CAP UNTIL THE ENGINE IS COOL.
Check the coolant level follow ing the instru ctions on
checking and ad ding coolant to you r engine. Refer to Engine
coolant in the Ind ex. If you do not follow these instru ctions,
you or others cou ld be inju red .
