RWARN ING
When park ing, do not use the gearsh ift in place of the
park ing brak e. Turn the key to LOCK whenever you
leave you r veh icle. Alw ays set the park ing brak e fully
and make sure that the gearsh ift is secu rely latch ed in P
(Park ) (autom atic tran smission ) or in 1 (First) (manual
tran smission ). Never leave you r veh icle unatten ded while
it is running. If you do not tak e these precau tion s, you r
veh icle may move unexpected ly and injure som eon e.
To release the parking brake, press the service brake pedal with
you r right foot and hold the parking brake pedal dow n with
you r left foot while you pull the parking brake release lever.
Lift you r foot from the parking brake pedal after it is released .
RWARN ING
If the park ing brak e is fully released , but the Brak e
System ligh t rem ain s on, have the brak es checked
immediately. They may not be work ing prop erly.
The parking brake is not designed to stop a moving vehicle, bu t
you can use the parking brake to stop you r vehicle in an
emergency if the norm al brakes fail. How ever, since the parking
brake ap plies only the rear brakes, the stop ping distance will
increase greatly and the hand ling of you r vehicle will be
ad versely affected .
