Safety Chains
Located near the step bu mper hitch ball position are tw o holes
in the und ersid e of the hitch plate for a Class II trailer (max).
These holes may be used for safety chain attachm ent when
tow ing with the step bu mper. Alw ays use safety chains when
tow ing. Safety chains are used to retain connection betw een the
tow ing and tow ed vehicle in the event of sep aration of the
trailer cou pling or ball. Cross the chains und er the trailer tongu e
and allow slack for tu rning corners. Connect the chain to the
hitch plate using a positive coupling, such as “Qu ick Links”,
with a strength rating of at least that of the safety chain rating.
When using a fram e mounted trailer hitch, do not attach the
safety chains to the step bu mper. Attach the safety chains to the
fram e mounted hitch using the recom mend ations supplied by
the hitch manu factu rer.
