The Importance of Being Properly Seated
In a collision, the air bag must inflate extrem ely fast to help
provid e ad ditional protection for you . In ord er to do this, the
air bag must inflate with consid erable force. If you are not
seated in a norm al rid ing position with you r back against the
seatback, the air bag may not protect you prop erly and cou ld
possibly hu rt you as it inflates.
Important Information About the Right Front Passenger
Air Bag
It is important for the front seat passengers’ safety that they
rem ain prop erly seated whenever the vehicle is moving. This
means that small child ren shou ld be secu red in ap prop riate
child safety seats or infant seats, and all other occupants shou ld
sit upright, with their backs against the seatback, and restrained
by lap and shou lder belts. No passenger shou ld sit tow ard the
front edge of the seat, or stand or lean near the air bag cover
(which is near the glove box).
RWARN ING
If a passen ger is not prop erly seated and restrain ed, an
inflatin g air bag could cause seriou s injury.
In rear-facing infant seats, the infant’s head is closer to the air
bag. The force of the rap idly inflating air bag could push the
top of the rear-facing seat against the vehicle seatback or center
arm rests (if so equ ipped), or center console (if so equ ipped).
REAR-FACIN G INFAN T CARRIERS MUST ALWAYS BE
SECURED IN THE REAR SEAT, and other child safety seats
and infant seats shou ld be secu red in the rear seat whenever
possible.
