ad d evenly distribu ted cargo in the box withou t exceed ing the
GAWR F.
It is possible to hang heavier equ ipment on the front as long as
the vehicle ow ner/ operator com pensates. This can be
accom plished , if necessary, by carrying fewer passengers, less
cargo or positioning cargo more tow ard the rear, which has the
effect of red ucing the load on the front. Keep in mind that the

related to governm ent crash test stand ard s, and only ind irectly
reflects on the am ount of accessory weight that can be carried .
In the case of both these nu mbers (83 and 112 pound s) (38 and
51
kgs), the important thing to rem ember is that for safe
operation, an ow ner/ operator shou ld calcu late the am ou nt and
the distribu tion of all weights (passengers, accessory equ ipment
and cargo). These com bined weights shou ld fall below the
vehicle’s GVWR and GAWR.
Trailers
Tow ing a trailer safely means having the prop er weight on the
tongu e (usually 10% of the trailer weight). Load -equ alizing
hitches on large rigs may transfer weight to each of the vehicle’s
axles. This weight must be inclu ded in cap acity calcu lations
when determ ining if the vehicle is load ed within safe limits.
