Servicing Your Explorer
If the pow er steering fluid is low , do not drive you r vehicle for
a long period of tim e before ad ding fluid. This can dam age the
pow er steering pump.
If you check the pow er steering fluid when it is cold , make sure
that the fluid reaches the FULL COLD range on the dipstick.
The read ing will only be accu rate if the fluid tem peratu re is
ap proxim ately 50 to 85˚F (10 to 30˚C).
NOTE: Do not turn the steerin g wheel of you r veh icle with
the engin e off. It could force power steerin g flu id out
from the reservoir cap or in extrem e cases, it could
unseat the cap.
Fuses
Fuses protect you r vehicle’s electrical system from overload ing.
If electrical parts in you r vehicle are not working, the system
may have been overload ed and blow n a fuse. Before you
rep lace or rep air any electrical parts, check the ap prop riate
fuses.
The follow ing charts tell you which fuses protect each electrical
part of you r vehicle. If a fuse blow s, all the parts of you r
vehicle that use that circu it will not work.

chap ter.
