Tire inspection and maintenance
Insp ect the tire tread s, and rem ove stones, nails, glass or other
objects that may be wedged in the tread grooves. Check for
holes or cuts that may perm it air to leak from the tire, and
make the necessary rep airs.
Insp ect the tire sid e walls for cuts, bru ises and other dam age. If
you suspect internal dam age to the tire, have it demou nted and
checked . You may need to rep air or rep lace it.
Wheel inspection and maintenance
Check for dam age that would affect the ru nou t of the wheels.
Wobble or shim my will eventu ally dam age the wheel bearings.
Front wheel bearings requ ire period ic rep acking and ad justm ent
as specified in the Maintenance Schedule and Record booklet.
Loose or worn front wheel bearings tend to let the vehicle
wand er or shim my, and can eventu ally cau se excessive tire
wear.
Whenever a wheel is rem oved and then re-installed , alw ays
rem ove any corrosion that may be present on the mou nting
surface of the wheel and / or the surface of the hu b, dru m or
rotor that contacts the wheel.
RWARN ING
Installin g wheels with out a good metal-to-m etal contact at
the wheel mountin g surface can cause the wheel lug nuts
to loosen and could allow the wheel to come off while
the veh icle is in motion .
Traction-Lok Rear Axle (If equipped)
This axle provid es ad ded drive aw ay traction on slip pery
surfaces, particu larly when one or more wheels are on a surface
with poor traction.
