withou t having to drive 20 miles to obtain a norm al operating
tem peratu re if ou tsid e tem peratu res are above 50˚F (10˚C).
NOTE: If the veh icle has been operated for an exten ded
period at high speed s or in city traffic durin g hot
weath er, or pullin g a trailer, the veh icle should be
turned off for about 30 minutes to allow the flu id to
cool before checking.
Checking the Automatic Transmission Fluid
With the vehicle on a level surface, start the engine and move
the transm ission shift selector throu gh all of the gear ranges
allow ing sufficient tim e for each position to engage. Securely
latch the transm ission shift selector in the P (Park) position,
fully set the parking brake and leave the engine ru nning.
RWARN ING
Your veh icle should not be driven if the flu id level is
below the bottom hole on the dipstick and outsid e
tem peratu res are above 50˚F (10˚C).
Wip e off the dipstick cap (located on the passenger’s sid e of the
engine), pull the dipstick out and wipe the ind icator end clean.
Pu t the dipstick back into the filler tu be and make sure it is
fully seated . Pu ll the dipstick out and read the fluid level.
When checking fluid at norm al operating tem peratu re, the fluid
level shou ld be within the crosshatched area on the dipstick.
When the vehicle has not been driven, and outsid e tem peratu re
is above 50˚F (10˚C), the fluid level shou ld be betw een the holes
on the dipstick.
