Servicing Your Explorer
In som e parts of the country, “p rem ium” grad e fuels are sold
with octane ratings of less than 91, esp ecially in high altitu de
areas. It is recom mend ed that you use only those “p rem ium”
fuels with an octane rating of 91 or higher.
Fuel Quality
If you are exp eriencing starting, rou gh idle or hesitation
problem s when the engine is cold , it may be cau sed by fuel
with low volatility. Try a different brand of fuel. If the
cond ition persists, see you r dealer or a qu alified service
technician.
Using a high-qu ality fuel makes you r vehicle more resp onsive
and maintains its good fuel econom y and emissions by:
■
minim izing deposits in fuel injectors, combu stion cham bers
and on intake valves.
■
■
assu ring qu ick starting and smooth warm -up.
protecting the fuel system from vap or lock in very hot
weather, which cau ses the engine to hesitate or stall and
makes restarts difficult.
■
■
■
protecting you r fuel system from ru sting.
preventing the fuel lines from freezing.
preventing the fuel system from “gu mming up” when you r
vehicle is not used for long period s of tim e.
It shou ld not be necessary to ad d any afterm arket prod ucts to
you r fuel tank if you continu e to use a high-qu ality fuel.
