Finally, check the rad iator and ad d more engine coolant if
need ed, follow ing the proced ures noted above. Reinstall the
rad iator cap secu rely, when finished .
If more engine coolant is necessary, fill the overflow
reservoir to the ap prop riate level marked on the bottle.
NOTE: Due to air bein g trap ped in the 4.0L engin e coolin g
system , it is not unusual to experien ce a 4 to 7 ounce

to 210 ml) coolan t loss up to 7,500 miles
km) after initial system fill.
In ord er to bleed the coolin g system prop erly after initial fill
with coolan t, it migh t need up to five cycles of:

heatin g up the system (therm ostat open)
making sure coolan t is at least up to the cold fill mark of
overflow bottle
■
■
lettin g the coolan t cool down (engin e coolan t tem peratu re
gau ge below the N of NORMAL)
top ping off the coolan t overflow bottle to the cold fill
mark
If coolan t loss contin ues after 7,500 miles (12,000 km), consult
you r Ford Dealer .
