Sand
When driving over sand , try to keep all fou r wheels of the
vehicle on the most solid area of the trail. Do not red uce the
tire pressu res bu t shift to a low er gear and drive stead ily
throu gh the terrain. Ap ply accelerator slow ly and avoid
spinning the wheels.
Mud and Water
When driving throu gh water, determ ine the depth; avoid water
higher than the bottom of the hu bs (if possible) and proceed
slow ly. If the ignition system gets wet, the vehicle may stall.
Once throu gh water, alw ays try the brakes. Wet brakes do not
stop the vehicle as effectively as dry brakes. Drying can be
improved by moving you r vehicle slow ly, while ap plying light
pressu re on the brake pedal.
After driving throu gh mud, clean off resid ue stu ck to rotating
driveshafts and tires. Excess mud stu ck on tires and rotating
driveshafts cau ses an imbalance which could dam age drive
com ponents.
NOTE: If the tran smission and tran sfer case is submerged in
water, their flu ids should be checked and changed , if
necessary.

Utility Vehicles
Driving on Hill or Slope Terrain
When driving on a hill, avoid driving crossw ise or tu rning on
steep slop es, you could lose traction and slip sid eways. Drive
straight up, straight dow n or avoid the hill com pletely. Know
the cond itions on the other sid e of a hill before driving over the
crest.
