Octane Recommendations

Typica l octane rating label
In som e parts of the cou ntry, “regu lar” grad e fuels are sold
with octane ratings of 86 or even less, esp ecially in high altitu de
areas. We recom mend that you do not use these fuels. Alw ays
use a fuel with an octane rating of 87, even if it is sold as a
“m idgrad e” or “p rem ium.”
Do not be concerned if you r vehicle som etim es knocks lightly
when you drive up a hill or when you accelerate. How ever, if a
fuel with the recom mend ed octane rating knocks heavily und er
all driving cond itions or knocks lightly driving at cru ising speed
on level road s, see you r dealer or a qu alified service technician.
Persistent, heavy knocking can dam age the engine.
