Engine Coolant Drain and Flush
To drain you r vehicle’s engine coolant:
1.
Turn off the engine and let it cool. Fully depressu rize the
engine cooling system by covering the rad iator cap with a
thick cloth and tu rning it slow ly counterclockw ise to the first
stop . Step back while the pressu re releases.

Remove the cap .
Attach a small hose to the drain tu be at the bottom of the
rad iator.

Let the engine coolant drain into a suitable container.
Disconnect the low er rad iator hose at the rad iator connector
and drain any rem aining engine coolant into a container.
Prop er proced ures for flushing the cooling system can be found
in the Service Manual .
Engine coolant refill procedure
After you have drained the engine cooling system :
1.
When cold , fill the rad iator to a level 1 to 1 1/ 2 inches
(38 mm) below the filler neck seat.
2.
Replace the rad iator cap to its fully installed position, then
back off to the first stop . This will prevent high pressu re
from bu ilding up in the cooling system during this part of
the fill proced ure.

Start and idle the engine until the therm ostat opens and the
rad iator upper hose becom es warm .
Shu t off the engine and allow the engine to cool. Cover the
rad iator cap with a thick cloth and cau tiou sly rem ove it. Step
back while the pressu re releases.
