1996 Ford Explorer Owners Manual

To  unfasten   the  belt,  push   the  release   bu tton  on  the  bu ckle.  This
allow s  the  tongu e  to  unlatch   from  the  bu ckle.
Because  the   center  front   lap  belt  does   not  have  a  retractor,   it
shou ld  be  shortened    and  fastened   when   not  in  use.

The  lap  belts  should   fit  snugly   and  as  low  as  possib le
arou nd  the  hips,  not  arou nd   the  waist.
