P (Park)
Alw ays com e to a com plete stop before you shift into P (Park).
This position locks the transm ission and prevents the rear
wheels from tu rning. To secu rely latch the gearshift in the P
(Park) position, pull it tow ard you , push it com pletely
counterclockw ise against the stop , and then push it tow ard the
instru ment panel.
The gearshift is secu rely latched in P (Park) if you cannot rotate
it in a clockw ise direction withou t lifting it tow ard you .

Alw ays set the park ing brak e fully and make sure the
gearsh ift is secu rely latch ed in P (Park ).

Never leave you r veh icle unatten ded while it is running.
Forced Downshifts
To gain extra acceleration in j Overd rive or Drive (O/ D OFF),
push the accelerator to the floor. The transm ission will
au tom atically dow nshift to the ap prop riate gear: third , second
or first.
Power Braking
Increasing the engine speed above idle withou t vehicle
movem ent (such as hold ing the brake) in a forw ard or reverse
gear cau ses transm ission stall.
NOTE: Con tin ued operation in the stall condition can resu lt
in tran smission overh eat, malfu nction or flu id
expulsion .
