Recycled engine coolant
Ford Motor Com pany recom mend s that Ford and
Lincoln-Mercu ry dealers use recycled engine coolant prod uced
by Ford -ap proved processes. Not all coolant recycling processes
prod uce coolant which meets Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A,
and use of such coolant may harm engine and cooling system
com ponents.
Alw ays dispose of used au tom otive fluids in a resp onsible
manner. Follow you r com munity’s regu lations and stand ard s for
recycling and disposing of au tom otive fluids.
Coolant refill capacity
To find out how much fluid you r vehicle’s cooling system can
hold , see Refill capacities for fluids in the Ind ex.
Have you r dealer check the engine cooling system for leaks if
you have to ad d more than a qu art (liter) of engine coolant per
month.
Severe winter climate
If you drive in extrem ely cold climates (less than -34˚F [-36˚C]),
it may be necessary to increase the coolant concentration above
50%.
Refer to the chart on the coolant container to ensu re the
coolant concentration in you r vehicle is such that the coolant
will not freeze at the tem peratu re level in which you drive
during winter months. Never increase the engine coolant
concentration above 60%. Leave a 50/ 50 mixtu re of engine
coolant and water in you r vehicle year-rou nd in non-extrem e
climates.
Checking Hoses
Insp ect all engine and heater system hoses for deterioration,
leaks and loose clam ps before ad ding or rep lacing engine
coolant. Make whatever rep airs or rep lacem ents that are
necessary using Motorcraft parts or their equ ivalents.
