Because you r vehicle’s engine is electronically controlled by a
com puter, som e control cond itions are maintained by pow er
from the battery. If you ever disconnect the battery, install a
new battery, or exp erience a dead battery, you must allow the
com puter to “relearn” its idle cond itions before you r vehicle will
idle at its best. To let the engine do this, ap ply the parking
brake, put the gearshift in Park (au tom atic transm ission) or
Neutral (manu al transm ission), tu rn off all the accessories, and
start the vehicle. Let the engine idle for at least one minu te.
If you do not let the engine relearn its idle, the idle qu ality of
you r vehicle may be ad versely affected until the idle is
relearned . Your vehicle will eventu ally relearn its idle while you
drive it, bu t it takes much longer than if you use the previou s
proced ure.
