Running Out of Fuel
If you r vehicle ru ns ou t of fuel, try to stop on level grou nd
aw ay from traffic. Ad d at least tw o gallons (8 liters) of fuel to
start you r vehicle again. If you r vehicle is not on level grou nd ,
you may need as much as five gallons (20 liters) of fuel to start
it.
You may need to crank the engine several tim es before the fuel
system starts to pump fuel from the tank to the engine.
Fuel Economy
Fuel econom y is an estim ate of the efficiency of you r vehicle
and can be calcu lated as Miles Per Gallon (MPG) or Liters Per
100
Kilom eters (L/ 100K).

Fill the tank com pletely and record the initial od om eter
read ing.
Every tim e you bu y fuel record the am ou nt (in gallons or
liters) purchased .
After at least three to five tankfu ls, fill the fuel tank and
record the final od om eter read ing.
Divid e the total nu mber of miles that you have driven by
the total nu mber of gallons that you r vehicle has used . In
metric, multip ly the nu mber of liters used by 100 and divid e
the answ er by the nu mber of kilom eters traveled . This will
give you the nu mber of liters used per 100 km .
