Base Curb Weight
The Base Curb Weight is the weight of the vehicle inclu ding
fuel, coolants, lubricants, emergency tools, spare wheel and tire.
It also inclu des any equ ipment that is standard on that mod el. It
does not inclu de passengers, cargo or optional equ ipment
installed by factory, dealer, afterm arket supplier or custom er.
Payload
Payload is the com bined , maxim um allow able weight of cargo,
occupants and optional equ ipment that the tru ck is designed to
carry. It is Gross Vehicle Weight Rating minu s the base curb
weight.
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
If you ad d base curb weight and the weight of a load (inclu ding
passengers, cargo and optional equ ipment) being carried at a
particu lar tim e, you get the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
It is important to rem ember that GVW is not a limit or a
specification. If an ow ner load s up a vehicle and weighs it, that’s
the GVW at that mom ent. If the ow ner piles on more of a load
and weighs it again, that becom es the GVW.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
To avoid overload ing a vehicle, the ow ner shou ld observe the
manu factu rer’s specified Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The
GVWR is the maxim um total weight of base vehicle, passengers,
optional com ponents and cargo that a particu lar vehicle was
designed to carry.
