Driving Your Explorer
Vehicles with trailers shou ld not be parked on a grad e.
How ever, if you must park on a grad e, place wheel chocks
und er the trailer’s wheels as follow s:

Ap ply the brake pedal and hold .
Have another person place the wheel chocks und er the
trailer wheels.

With the chocks in place, release the brake pedal, making
sure the chocks are hold ing.
For au tom atic transm issions — ap ply the parking brake by
pressing the service brake pedal dow n firm ly with you r right
foot while ap plying the parking brake pedal with you r left
foot.

For manu al transm issions — ap ply the service brake and
shift into N (Neutral) while still maintaining pressu re on the
service brake pedal. Set the parking brake fully.
Shift an au tom atic transm ission into Park (P). Pu t the
gearshift of a manu al transm ission in Reverse. If you r vehicle
is equ ipped with four-w heel drive make sure the transfer
case is not in Neutral.
To start, after being parked on a grad e:

Ap ply the brake pedal and hold .
Start the engine.
Shift transm ission into gear and release the parking brake.
Release the brake pedal and move the vehicle uphill to free
the wheel chocks.

Ap ply the brake pedal and hold while another person
retrieves the chocks.
