To avoid injury, never run the engin e with one wheel off
the grou nd, such as when changin g a tire.
High water
Never attem pt to cross water that is fast flow ing or of unknow n
depth.
Do not drive throu gh flood ed areas unless you are sure that the
water is below the bottom of the wheel hu bs.
If you must drive throu gh high water, drive slow ly. You may
have limited traction or wet brakes, so allow extra stop ping
distance becau se you r vehicle will not stop as qu ickly as usual.
After you drive throu gh the stand ing water, ap ply you r brakes
gently several tim es as you r vehicle moves slow ly. This help s to
dry the brakes.
NOTE: If the tran smission and tran sfer case is submerged in
water, their flu ids should be checked and changed , if
necessary.
NOTE: All rear axle lube quantities must be rep laced every
100,000
miles (160,000 km) or if the axle has been
submerged in water. Otherw ise, the lube should not
be checked or changed unless a leak is suspected or
rep air req uired .
Rocking the vehicle
For 4x4 vehicles, engage 4WD LOW, when the vehicle gets
stu ck and try to drive aw ay.
If you r vehicle gets stu ck (for exam ple, in mud or snow ), you
may rock it ou t of the spot. Shift in a stead y rhythm betw een
forw ard and reverse gears. Allow the transm ission to fully
engage, then press lightly on the accelerator. Do not rock the
vehicle for more than a few minu tes. This may overheat the
