Gasolines For Clean Air
Fuels in certain areas of the cou ntry are requ ired to contain
oxygenates to improve air qu ality. Com mon oxygenates are
ethanol or grain alcohol (blend ed at no more than 10%),
methanol or wood alcohol (blend ed at no more than 5% with
cosolvents and ad ditives) and MTBE or methyl tertiary bu tyl
ether (blend ed at no more than 15%).
Reform ulated gasoline is also requ ired in certain areas of the
U.S. These fuels are designed to further red uce emissions from
you r vehicle.
Generally, you shou ld not exp erience difficulties operating you r
vehicle on reform ulated gasoline or on fuels containing
oxygenates. We encou rage you to use these fuels.
Safety Information Relating to Automotive Fuels
RWARN ING
Autom otive fuels can cause seriou s injury or death if
misu sed or mish andled .
Gasoline and other au tom otive fuels are extrem ely flam mable.
Turn you r vehicle off and do not smoke while refu eling you r
vehicle. Keep sparks and other sou rces of ignition aw ay from
fuels.
Au tom otive fuels can be harm ful or fatal if swallow ed. Further,
gasoline may be blend ed with methanol. Even small am ounts of
methanol can cau se blind ness and possibly death when
swallow ed. Therefore, never attem pt to siphon any fuel by
mouth.
If any fuel is swallow ed, call a physician or poison control
center immediately. Do not delay callin g a physician merely
becau se no adverse effects are noticed at first; the toxic effects
of fuels may not becom e apparen t for many hours.
